IronHead Forum: What We Do Here

We share our knowledge, experience and opinions. In addition we share friendship, and a love for these classic Harley Davidson motorcycles.

This is not a forum just for socializing and general discussion, although some of that is appropriate within the IronHead context. This is a very important technical forum. The main event here is helping new guys get their old IronHeads on the road and sharing knowledge and history of IronHeads. This is what we do here.

This forum is not just for us and for now. We must keep in mind the world of 10, 20, ..., whatever years from now. The top experts who are here now will most likely not be here then. We are preserving their knowledge and the history so that guys many years from now, future generations, will have access to it. This is also what we do here.

Some of us have formal training in mechanics. Others have a long history of working with IronHeads, having had one "back in the day". Still others are quite new to this.

Everyone should feel free to share their knowledge, experience and opinions, even those who are new. One way to learn stuff is to post something that you believe to be helpful and correct, only to discover after reading the responses that you were wrong!

When you get a response to a posted question it may be best to wait a day or so before following whatever advice or directions are given. The respondent may be sharing their best experience, but there may be better yet to come.

Please keep in mind that this is a world wide forum. Everyone here does not have English as a first language. Sometimes you have to work at understanding what the poster is saying.

Occasionally we disagree rather dramatically in our opinions. When you encounter an opinion with which you disagree, or perhaps one which may offend you, you should carefully consider your response. Consider these ideas:
  • Always show respect for the other person.
  • Respond the to idea, not to the person who posted the idea.
  • If you are going to throw fuel on the fire you will have to accept the consequences; sometimes it is best to simply read and move on.
  • Do not respond to the post; rather, PM me and i will deal with it as the forum moderator.

The following threads introduce the XLForum community of IronHead owners, our bikes, and how we feel. Please feel free to read thru these and post your own comments ...
