View Full Version : I'm a bit worried.

My wife's income makes up half our household income. She's a Special Education teacher with a 15 year tenure. She was just told today that because of budget cuts that her contract will not be renewed next year so she is out of a job. We are going to have to make some hard decisions if she doesn't find another job within six months or so. Already many school districts in our area are cutting teaching positions left and right, which means it will be even hard for her to find work. This is a total drag.

One of the first things she said to me was, "I hope I don't lose my motorcycle over this!" I had to chuckle to myself because that about how I tend to prioritize things. Well, only time will tell and if we have to loose property I am pretty sure I will be able to hang on to our "toys". Wish us luck. My pay will keep us out of poverty, but my pay cannot cover all our expenses so changes will have to happen.

Rough times brother. That sucks to hear but I know how you feel. I was just laid off from my job of 3 years because the company is going out of business. My unemployment pay will equal less than half of my income that I made working. Around here there's really not much hiring at all. Especially for someone like me without a whole lot of education or specialty skills. I'm a veteran but don't really have a skill attached to it. No one is going to pay me to be a forward observer in the civilian world haha.

Keep your head up and I wish you and your wife luck. Hopefully your issues and mine will work themselves out. One thing is for sure, the Sportster helps me keep my mind off of it.

I'm very sorry to hear that. Your district must be having to make some hard choices.
There has been cuts here and some teachers have been told the same thing. Hopefully she will find something right away.

I feel your pain. 2yrs ago my wife was laid off due to a "position being eliminated". That's why I no longer have my "S" model. We just couldn't afford it. After being reassigned to another position and essentially rehired, we come to today. She found out today that due to budget cuts, there are 10 people at her school qualified for the 8 positions available next school year. This doesn't even come close to the number of jobs that are being lost system wide in our county. I hope it works out for you guys and us as well.

....and since we are on the subject, NC has a damn "Education Lottery". Where the hell is that money going?

I feel your pain too.
I've been out of work for some time.
First the truck went then the bike.
May your situation never come to that.

Same here in Texas. Now they're talking about bringing in some casinos and slots under the same lie.

I understand... I lost my job of 19+ years and have been out of work for a year now... I apply everywhere, but nothing, nada, zilcho.

Best of luck to you.

You have lots of company I am sure, Even with my upgraded longterm dissability ins. my income is less than 1/2 what I earned working and my wife's job has been in question for a year, it looks like they are done weeding out employees they don't want and will go to 30 days on 30 days off until things get better or fall apart. My bikes are safe, if it gets any worse I can sell our camp trailer to pay off her Jeep.
