I was reading a post about a member who had is bike stolen then read through the other members posts who have lived the same nightmare .

This bothered. Me tremendously and I started thinking that if these bikes are actually returned to their owners the condition that they receive it in will likely be damaged or missing parts etc.

I have only had my Sporter for a few weeks and due to upgrades I already have quite a few parts that I was considering selling or ?

I have decided to keep them and if a member ends up getting his bike back but it needs parts to be put back whole .
I will donate them to help that member out .

I am pretty new here so if this has been suggested before count me in .if not then I think this would be a worthwhile thing to do

There has been similar things (Not sure about for stolen bikes, but I know there have been a lot of times the guys here have helped out people that have lost bikes for whatever reason). It is definitely a good thing and I keep a lot of parts around for similar reasons.

Do the bikes ever get returned? I imagine the percentage is low.

That is from the insurance company's so I can not gurantee its accuracy but if it's lower or higher it seems that atleast some members will get theirs back

I keep all my take offs, and have in the past sent parts to any XLForum member who needs them. I will continue that practice until my parts boxes are empty.

My bike has been stolen few months back. Recently I found my bike but it is completely modified.

I think a large portion of them get parted out. My Dad had his 87 heritage soft tail in an enclosed trailer when it got stolen. It just sucked because it had belonged to my grandfather. If the insurance company ever recovers it maybe he will be notified so we can buy it back but I doubt it as it was a full custom so likely it was parted out or the vin was changed ect.

You won't have to buy it back. It will be confiscated from the current owner and given outright to you. The current owner, even if he can show that he paid for the bike in good faith, is the one that gets screwed. Ask me how I know. :censor

Well the insurance company payed out so technically they own it if it ever gets recovered. That had to suck.
