That sucks Cliff. Do you think it was ridden away or put on a truck? Hopefully with the high member numbers here someone will see it.

probably a truck

Crazy, a friend of mine and I were just talking about extendable boom pickers mounted in the backs of hightop cargo vans......I guess the fockers can snatch a bike in less than a couple minutes now.

Sorry to hear that. I read your post about a week ago. I'm not that far from Glassport, got relatives who live there. I'm in Penn Twp. with an Irwin address.
I've been watching out, but... Lotsa black Sportys around here tho. If the thief was stupid enough to start riding it, most likely he would change the looks of it immediately.
Surprising, I really haven't heard of all that many bike thefts around here this season, mostly dirtbikes and ATV thefts. I guess things are different closer to the city.
What's the Glassport PD have to say so far, any leads? Did you have theft insurance? Did anyone at least give you a follow-up call as to the status of their investigation?
I wish you the best of luck that it is recovered, and soon.
I have lots of thoughts about what should happen to bike thieves, but I won't type them out here now.

I have had not heard anything back from the cops and my Dad is still waiting to hear back from the insurance company. The biggest problem is going to be getting the highest price back on all the accessories on the bike.

That ain't likely to happen unless you had a rider added to your insurance, including those additional accessories.

Looks like the same front end. Just changed wheel, deleted caliper and accessories. Looks like just cheap rattle can with no prep over the paint. Probably polish or peel off. If it wasn't running or completely submerged for long. It might be salvageable.

If insurance gives retail for lost accessories and total bike out, you might look at offering a $200-500 to buy it back. If fixable, great. If not part it out and put the money in a new one.

Keep us posted on the insurance claims. At least she's home. I have had two different cars (VW bug, Mazda 323) stolen in my life, one car was stolen TWICE!!! (Mazda 323)

It never was found the second time. I even had a CLUB on the steering wheel. Talk about bad luck. It was stolen the second time the exact same day I was up in LA picking up my brand new 1991 Sportster. I still have the Sportster. Never heard about the Mazda ever again.

If it was my bike, I'd be calling the news stations myself. All the big local Pittsburgh stations, channels 2, 4, and 11. Tell them your story. They can usually get access to the police reports. Unless there is a politically connected cover-up, which is most likely the situation here.

This needs to be made public. If you stole a cop's bike, well, you know what kind of publicity that story would get.
You could even make a post on craigslist Rants and Raves section, if you felt the need to express yourself, if the local TV news is going along with covering this up.

Too much of this chit goin on here lately. Cops stealing guns, drugs, whatever, from evidence rooms, etc. Corruption all over this area, some on the news, some not. Just today one of the local TV news channels had a story about a cop who was pulling people over, then stealing their drugs.
I am not at all trying to bash cops in general here. But just like any other workplace/job, there is always an @$$h0le that makes every other fellow employee look bad, no matter what their particular job description might be....

At least you have some mental/emotional closure by finally knowing what did happen to your bike. I hope your insurance company comes thru for you, and also hope that cop gets the book thrown at him equivalent to what a civilian thief would get in the legal prosecution process.

Obviously, this is just my own personal opinions here. You have to do what you feel is the right thing to get past it all, and get on 2 wheels again ASAP, because the lousy weather is on the way soon.

I would be well beyond livid about it all, but that's just me. :censor

Good Luck man........

This totally sucks...

Criminals like to work in jobs that give them good access to promote their particular brand of crime.

Child molesters work in churches, or as coaches, or even as janitors in schools. Considering the huge numbers of perverts out there, it's a wonder how anyone could even get a job in those fields without being a perv.

Fire bug's are commonly found working for a fire department.

So, if you want to find a crook, or the kind of pervert that likes to wield power over his (or her) victims, it's likely you will find them employed as cops.

Everyone wants to work where they have the best opportunity to pursue their dreams.

This cop's dream was your motorcycle.

guess everyone is waiting for an update. The cop was charged with theft and receipt. it looks like he is going to plea out to continue with his mental treatment and agrees to never pursue a job in law enforcement. Which to me is a bunch of BS. And as for the payout from the insurance, I am getting screwed the whole way down the line, after the deductible and pay off I should of got like $2600, but my Dad is saying he only received 1300 and then only gave me 1000 saying he had to fix his heater. Oh, and everything was in his name.

Note that the slider does not have mounts for the other caliper. They swapped out the Roadster front end for one off a Custom.

I agree that possibly the blue could be sanded and polished off.

1) Call the insurance company and find out exactly what the payout was.

2) Did your dad pay for the bike? If not, and it was just in his name, then file a claim against your dirt bag dad for the full amount of what he really held back from the payment.

3) Cut all ties with that man you used to think of as your dad, he's dead to you now.

1. If he is not the owner of the policy...they won't tell him anything.
2. As the legal owner of the bike, the insurance payments belongs to the father.
3. We only have half of the story. The bike was in the fathers name for a reason. Having a vehicle in your name opens you up to liability for any damage that arises out of the operation of that vehicle by someone else. Say that the son had a passenger and had an accident and the passenger died. The father can say goodbye to his assets and possible future assets if there was not enough coverage. Putting a vehicle in your name for someone else is not usually something a prick would do.

5th November 2015, 02:06
It is a long story why it was still in his name. And I can not prove if he got the other 1300 or not so can't hold that against him. They had me list all the aftermarket parts and prices which came to 6500 dollars. The insurance policy had a 5000 dollar accessory clause, so I figured I would see at least 6500 total after deductible. But after deductible, we only got $4856.93. And I know this because we used my email to communicate with the insurance company. Well my dad still owed 2200 on the bike, so that should of taken it to $2656.93

Hit 'em in the place that hurts the worst...the wallet. You can definately get him for the deductible and any other loss including accessories that weren't covered by insurance.

Lets see here
Forward controls instead of mids ?
Dual disc fronts with a roughly 2009 front wheel ?
Chrome gear cover and primary ?
Clutch cable changed ?
Not a Roadster and maybe not your bike
Weird shit here.

Looking at the original pictures, I think this was a Custom with a Roadster front end on it before it was stolen. That takes the line of least resistance in coming up with an explanation.

So after it was taken the front end was replaced, many parts sold off, and some rattle can paint was applied.

The bike was indeed an R. But I bought it with everything on it already. It also came with a quick release windshield and quick release tour pack. I couldn't believe someone would do all that to an R either. I traded in a 02 883R on it because I didn't want to change the look of it.
