So i took my spter 883 2005 to the dealer for the 8000km (5kmile) service...

and they change the oil (it had Motul 3000 if i recall) for TOTAL Q9000 5w40... and my brain is iching!! they told me thereīs no problem whatsoever that it is a perfect oil for the bike... and in the next oil change (5000km) in summer i can use a 10w40.

For the primary they used something like 75w90 for gear boxes, but right now i donīt remember...

Honestly, i donīt know :censor ībout mechanichs and stuff...

so? should I worry?? :(

thx!

Maybe it is, but I wouldn't use it in mine.

The HD dealership used something besides HD product? Where do you live? Do you have an itemized receipt? It should help you fill in the blanks.
What does you owners manual recommend for motor oil?

Yes, the dealer used Total (french oil) they are also dealers for Citroen, ring a bell? :doh i took it there because of the garanty issue.

I live in Uruguay, Southamerica.

receipt? i didnīt pay yet, gonna do it later today.

The motorcycle calls for a 20W-50 in the engine. 20W-50 in the tranny/primary is acceptable also (that is what syn3 is)...

I would not use a 5W-40 in either hole.

Sounds like they were getting rid of in stock oil :(

That seems like an awfully light oil, esp. since you will start your summer riding season soon. I definitly wouldn't use that in the clutch / transmission (primary), as the gears will shear that oil to lighter weight in no time (not good). Any quality 75w90 gear oil is ok there.

If you were riding in 0 degree centigrade I wouldn't worry, but any kind of warm weather, that's an awfully light oil.

In the primary they used 75w90 oil for gear boxes.

5w40 in the engine.

I guess they used what tehy had... i´ll change it for a heavier one next time...

thanx ppl.

I visited Montevideo (sorry for the spelling) about 20 years ago. I enjoyed the visit, the people were nice, and the steaks were great!

Ride safe!
