Just thought I would share this. This is a friend of mine that lost his five year old son to cancer about 10 years ago. Since then he has been visiting the local childrens hospitals cancer wards with a few of his friends (batman and ironman usually join him). This is him getting ready to go see them with his daughter. In case you are wondering the dude does not need any padding in that costume. He is a MMA fighter that donates all his winnings to cancer research and runs his own MMA gym.

You national symbol is a bird that looks like a golf ball with a beak. The national sport is tattooing your faces. Oh yeah, you're on the cutting edge of technology in regard to herding sheep. But I have to say that the terrain is nice.

Even the Irish are hesitant to take on the All Blacks in Rugby..hell the whole world is.
Kiwis are keen sailors..ask Dennis Conner. There are a few techno geeks that have made 2 wheeled records and advanced motorcycling to what we see today 30 years ago.
Third world...not so much, ask Tenzing Norgay about Hillary.

Some of the best fighters here. Record breakers, innovators, leaders in their fields... we got em all. Not too bad bro considering our current population is just over 4 mill. How many in Cali? Being just about as far away from the rest of the world as ya can get we have had to make, repair, modify, improve anything that breaks.

It has always amazed me how many aircraft engines were used in "armor". Many of early WWll US tanks used aircraft radials whereas this video has a naturally aspirated Merlin clone used in British armour.......badass! +1 , But really power is power, the aircraft engines were available and dependable, they worked until more effective power units were designed and brought into production. Strangely enough the legendary Chrysler Hemi was a direct result of research done by Chrysler on the Tank engines they produced for WW2 Tanks. The great wars were responsible for much technical advancement, a small reward for the terrible loss of life, but there it is.

It was not matter of excellence of design. More a means of expedience in production. As AFVs got heavier, standard automotive engines were unable to provide enough power. Stuart tanks in some versions used two Cadillac V8 engines, which proved overly complicated. In any case this was only a light tank.

The only other options were heavy diesel and aircraft engines. Air engines were proven designs that were easily obtained from various manufacturers in large quantities.

So thats what they did in many cases.

Chrysler did a lot as far as aircraft engines went in the 2nd WW. They built more Wright Radials than Wright did and did a lot of upgrades to the design. They also developed an engine for tanks that mated 2 flathead sixes. I don't know if it was used to any great extent. They were also developing a V16 fighter engine using the Hemi design, it was very fast but was doomed with the development of the jet engine. The Hemi head wasn't new as all the radial engines were hemi designs although they did not have a detachable head but were blind holes like the early Mercury outboards. There could have been exceptions but I don't know of any.

OK, my last aircraft powerplant post....
1916 A Bavarian company "Baverische Flugzeug-werke" begins building aircraft engines.
1917 Changes company name to "Baverische Moteren Werke" and begins building motorcycles.
1928 Begins building automobiles.
This is why the BMW round logo resembles a rotating aircraft propeller.....so I've been told.

You are correct, from a former long time BMW rider. BMW was forced to stop building aircraft engines after WW1 by the allies. Years later they started again eventually getting into jet engines.

Of course "art" like many other things in life is relative.....
But I think this builders aesthetic could be a rather interesting discussion.
Of course if this "thing" actually drives down the road straight and safe then I guess it's all Good!
