What kind of snake is on their flag?

The snake on the Mexico flag is not any specific variety, it is a representation of an Aztec legend where Huitzilopochtli had a vision of an Eagle devouring a serpent and sent his people out to find it. Believed to be a sign of good devouring evil (although the Aztecs worshiped a serpent God).

The picture posted of the green snake appears to be a smooth greensnake (Opheodrys vernalis), nonvenomous found in North America and Northern Mexico.

Yeah, anybody that has a trip to Florida planned in the next 2 or 3 weeks better postpone it. Keys are being evacuated and a couple of counties in south Florida have mandatory evacuations. Lot of roads probably gonna be closed and there will be mass evacuations on the major highways. Gas might be in short supply too. Bad time to visit Florida. Georgia and the Carolinas not looking too good either. Weather report says Hurricane Irma will hit south Florida as a cat4 and go right up the state.

The eastern green mamba (Dendroaspis angusticeps), also known as the common mamba, East African green mamba, green mamba, or white-mouthed mamba, is a large, tree-dwelling, highly venomous snake species of the mamba genus Dendroaspis.

Stairman - I thought that maybe was the case at first, but the Mamba has a very rough scale and the belly is usually the same color. Looking closely at the picture, the snake appears to have smoother scale and a light yellow belly which would make it more likely the smooth green snake. Also, if we knew the location of the picture would be a big help.

I also remember party lines. Had to pick up and listen before dialing. Also had to tell the nosy neighbor down the road to hang up when she would pickup in the middle of a conversation.

No texting, but you could use Morse code :)

The thing is, those will still work when the electricity is off and the newer, cordless phones will not. I still got one of the 10 pound black models to use when the power is out.

This has been happening in my neighborhood. Several times in the last couple of months. So far I have only seen them while on my Buell and the noise scared them away before I got too close. Several people on my street have had very close encounters with the young male and older female (there was a family of them living on a neighbors property, mom, dad and 2 cubs). Two neighbors reported a close encounter (separate sightings, within 10 feet) while walking on the road in front of my house, and the Puma crossed the street and ran down towards the creek. Three neighbors behind me reported seeing the young male running in front of their cars in the morning when they left for work (again separate sightings), ending with the big cat slipping under the fence on the property where they were living. The Mountain Lions did not seem interested in the humans in any of the encounters, just trying to get a way. Several cats are missing in the 'hood though, despite the warnings we have given everyone. Several of the new people refuse to believe these magnificent beauties are living right outside their back/front doors.
