This has to be Mt Pinatubo which exploded covering most of Luzon in thick ash and eventually led to the closing down of Clark AFB and Cubi Point resulting in the withdrawal of all United States military personnel from the Philippine Islands. Flew many sorties into both bases and got Jungle Survival School in the mountains near Clark.

It is an awesome sight. I was on the USS Fletcher DD992 behind the Iowa when she was doing some sea trials, including the firing of the big guns. I never saw her move sideways, but she did roll a bit. The sound wave of multiple guns going off, hitting you in the chest is something I will never forget.

I had a friend who was on a destroyer off the Korean coast during the war. He was in sight of the coast but said they could hear rounds from the Missouri going over. The Missouri was twenty miles out. He also said when they got mail from the Missouri it took him three shots with his camera to get all of her in the picture from next to her.

I like this pic, I haven't seen this one before. If you look at the one below, I put a red 'X' about 40 feet to the left of where I was standing during this picture. I also circled a projectile in mid air after exiting the barrel. Not very many pictures of the shells mid-flight. On our cruise video, there is some UAV IR footage and you can see the blur of the shell hit the ground immediately before the dust cloud erupts.

regarding the movement of the ship during firing the 16/50's, it creates a shockwave that travels fore and aft along the keel that you can feel when it passes you. I've felt it pass about 3 or 4 times before it dissipates.

Gravity has its place mind you. If localized and manipulated correctly it works well. There are certain aspects of human conditions that require it in fact.
Take vigorous sex for example....Newton laws are front and centre when under the influence of low or non existent gravitational forces.
Otherwise gravity I think, is over rated.

Thank you Grey one. I like the bottom wrap under the treads but am shrinking at the math and steam box required to do so.
Rather thinking very open floating treads, as if gravity defying. If I paint the central pillar the wall colour and contrast the treads in Walnut and black.....maybe.
Trying to figure a balustrade free system.
