Jets will actually run on many types of fuel.
The issue is keeping it stable at high altitudes due to low temps and air pressure.

Chevy played around with gas turbine powered passenger cars back in the early 60's. Decent milage, ran on almost anything that could ignite, but poor acceleration and complicated fuel management for a consumer product. Not that modern hybrid vehicles are any less difficult to fix if one breaks down.

Not that modern hybrid vehicles are any less difficult to fix if one breaks down. It was Chrysler that had a small fleet of Turbine cars on the roads in the late 60's. The cars did just fine but cost too much to produce. Most of the Turbine cars were scrapped due to the high Duty costs imposed by the Government due to the fact that the bodies came from a coachbuilder in Europe. There are I believe only 6 still in existance.

This is an interesting picture, had to give it some analysis to determine what I think is going on here.
There's a lot of smoke, doesn't look like it's coming from the tires, doesn't look like there is enough room for an engine below the pilot, so is that a backpack on his back that supplies the thrust? If it is, what is it?, and what happens if he happens to loose his grip on the trike frame? Does he just continue to to go skidding down the strip with that on his back? This might qualify for the " WOW, THIS IS GOING TO HURT" thread.
Last thing, there is a little thing hanging down about center between the back tires that looks like there is a wet spot below it, I believe I would be doing that too if I were on there.:doh

This was quite a project for someone, but after looking it over, it seems like the design of the prop would be fore clockwise rotation as we are looking at it. Seems like that would propel the whole thing in a backward direction. Wonder if he has started it up yet?
At least he is keeping within the original air cooled theme of the car.:banana

I see a California plate on it, but there is no way that car is legal for the street, just based on the prop alone.

Many moons ago I saw a bug with a V8 in it and the motor mounts were thick leather straps. Was fun to watch and I wondered how hard it would be to twist it out of the chassis with a few stomps on the gas...

When I was in the Navy I was in charge of firing those flares and chaff (part of the Electronic Warfare systems). During one particular training exercise I nearly took out an F14 with a burst of chaff. Idiot was flying way below the training ceiling and almost got an engine full of shredded aluminum foil... No one had ever seen or heard the launchers go off before and it scared the sheet out of everyone standing on the signal bridge. It was quite impressive too.

Haha I bet the pilot got a smack on the hand for that one.
I must remember not to go fishing when the warships are in town!
Acutially New Zealand is Nuclear free so no US ships have been here for a long time. Bit of a sore point for your Government I think!

I can neither confirm nor deny the presence of nuclear weapons on-board my ship.

Many US ships carry hot tipped missiles, but even more don't. Japan had an issue with it when I was in the Navy (for obvious reasons), but the above line was what were drilled to say.

The City of Santa Cruz California is a "Nuclear Free Zone", and people are upset about it only because it limits some medical treatment options due to the way the ordinance is worded.

I wonder if the same is true for your country.

We have nuclear medicine, no nuclear power or weapons, no entry to any nuclear powered vessel or any vessel with nuclear weapons. Pretty much means nothing from the American navy, or any nuclear navy, is allowed here, except research or antarctic missions. As long as theyre not nuclear. Not sure of the fine print but I cant remember anything American military here for a long time. People here get very upset at the thought of nuclear power! Im sure nuclear subs come secret squirrel styles, a fishing boat got dragged to the bottom of the Cook straight a while back, they reckon it was a sub caught in the net.

The United States was in a prime orbital position and time of day to view the eclipse on April 15, 2014. Depending on local weather conditions (it was cloudy and overcast for many), the public got a spectacular view looking into the sky as the moon’s appearance changed from bright orange to blood red to dark brown and perhaps gray.

The eclipse is a phenomenon that occurs when the Earth, moon and sun are in perfect alignment, blanketing the moon in the Earth’s shadow. The United States will not be able to witness a full lunar eclipse in its entirety again until 2019. This image was taken in San Jose, California by Brian Day.

Welcome to Yakutsk, one of the coldest habitable places on earth.

http://acidcow.com/pics/20140414/yakutsk_05.jpg

I live 20 miles from Niagara Falls.
It went from 27C to -2C in 6 hours on Monday.

Now that's a temperature extreme!
We got snow again too.

From the photographer in the pic that had been standing where that bike collided with the tyre wall.... "Dean Mulcahy lost control and fell heavily at Paddock Hill Bend… his bike skipped across the gravel trap and flipped up into the air. I took evasive action and managed to miss his flying bike and debris which ended up landing on the tyre barrier exactly where I had been standing! Sadly 2 of my camera’s and lenses weren’t able to back out of the way like me,” he continued, “My Canon 1D2N body fitted with a 24-105mm lens and Canon 1D3 body fitted with 400mm lens were sent flying”
