Ok its a 79 motor, frame not really sure!!!! I knows it earlier then 70 cause no Vin stamped on it...We are building all we can by hand... I had a complete 79 i tore apart for the motor and front end....Bought a roller rigid(bolt on) with a 38 rake( that we cut out and put back). We cut the back section and made it a weld on kit,Didn't like the squareness of it...Made the seat pan out of a shovel, made it jockey shift, foot clutch i will have done by the weekend have a good idea for it now. so here are some pics....Hope you like!!! Oh ya and what ya think about the pipes i built???

Yeah, those pic's really suck. :laugh

The best and easiest way to post pic's is by using one of the on line photo gallery's like www.photobucket.com. They are free. Just sign up and up load your pictures. When you have them uploaded into photobucket then move your mouse over the pic you want and you'll see a number of selections appear below the pic. Move the mouse down to the one that says "IMG Code" highlight that selection, right click your mouse button, select copy. Then paste into this forums input window. That's all there is to it.

Shifters on the wrong side so that atleast 76-77 later motor. Some type of serial number should be on a boss on the right side between the intake pushrods.

My 77 does not have any numbers on the frame I can find. Also just wondering about that jockey shift, it looks like it will want to up shift for ya with it leaning way back like that.

Might try a forward control. I seen a post here last week, that showed a lot of jockey shifts with forward control. One guy had a short cable on a forward foot pedal. Looked a little primitive and short lasting, but with a few mods looked promising. Maybe do a search for foot clutch on an Ironhead.

If you don't have a manual use the stickies at the top of the page for clutch adjustments, if that don't work pull the primary and see why it isn't engaging the clutches. Maybe sticking plates(tool in the stickies, i used "hoppers" design) and clean them, or replace.;)

Yeah I been trying to get mine to a decent runner for over a year now. Bad mechanics(kept engine for a year) and I'm still fixing his mistakes. :doh I won't get into it but I have to pull my engine for the second time this year(with 170 miles on new top-end). A new oil pump body this winter and I'll be set though. If you've ridden this bike, you know why you have to get the clutches fixed. There is nothing like riding an Ironhead.:clap

Thanks for all the pics on this. Great inspiration. I have a 77 that I am doing a jockey setup on almost exactly like yours. You got any problems with that long arm bouncing around and popping out of gear? Reason I ask is that I was thinking about doin a nice long arm like yours but a friend of mine is saying that he has a hard time keeping his in gear and switched over to a pivot on the case bolts and one out back to keep it from bouncing around and hasn't had a problem since. Thoughts? I didn't want to make up a linkage b/c i don't like the looks running all over the case and prefer the look and feel of a solid bar.

No it stayed in gear just fine didnt pop out once. But i did yank it all off today and put back to normal till i work out the kinks i'm having with the whole bike!

Thebng, it's gonna depend alot on positioning..
One persons may not pop out and the exact same set up may pop lose when mounted just a fraction of a degree different. It's physicsgravity versus resistance...which, the resistance thing also plays a role...
I would think that a tranny with more wear on it would also be more apt to pop out than another less warn one.
Build it long and toy around with it...you can always chop it down..
