We're a tad nervous around here but not as much as my Mother-in-Law.

She's been having headaches and migraines much worse than usual in the past couple weeks. So last week she went to see Doc and he sent her for a CAT scan.

Yep, there is something in her head that shouldnt be there, dont know what yet.
Going for an MRI next week or the week after.

Doc seems to think it's serious enough that her MRI is tomorrow. We'll find out soon if it's bad new or really bad news.

And on a related note, Yvan, a very good friend of the family for the past 40 years went in for his yearly physical yesterday. Tomorrow, he will be in surgery for colon cancer.

Damn life can be a sometimes.

Sorry to hear about this. There is nothing nice about colon cancer or a possible tumor or aneurysm in the brain, but I cannot help but to think that it is fortunate that these issues were discovered and can now be treated. My father passed away in 2005 from multiple cancers, and just prior to his demise they discovered he had been carrying around a large tumor in his brain which went undetected for years and because of my father's age and the size of the tumor (and his prognosis with cancer) they opted not to do anything about it. My personal theory is that the tumor was malignant and was the reason cancer kept returning in other areas of his body. I'm no doctor, but that is what I believe.

That is why I say your MIL and friend are both fortunate even though under unfortunate circumstances. They have a good chance now that the problems are known and being dealt with. I hope things work out for them.

My MIL's tumor isnt cancerous, but they still have to crack her head open to get the tumor out.

    And Yvan's surgery went well.

Reta (my mother in law) basically can't laugh anymore, or move her head in a hurry, or sneeze. Too much pressure and it hurts like Hell when she does things like that.

She went to see a neurosurgeon today. He said the tumor is about the size of a golf ball, but by being not malignant, it hasnt got "tentacles" going deep into the brain making it "fairly routine" to get it out.
Surgery will be around the New Year, unless the symptoms get worse.

And apparently it was Eva-Mae who explained to her cousins that there was a golf ball in Grandma's head and she needed to see the doctor so she could laugh again.

Luke, I am so sorry for my earlier post (s). Since I couldn't delete them I just did the edit. I don't know what to say....I just didn't read them right I guess.

I hope things work out. My prayers are with you and your family.

The surgery went well, lasted about 8 hours and they said they were able to get about 99% of the tumor out.

Weird (and creepy) thing is that they didnt "patch" the hole they made in her skull. Not big enough and additional risk of infection. So instead, they stretched the muscles and skin over the hole and it's supposed to be more than good enough. Since they are the experts and not me, I guess I should believe them.

And a week after going in to get a hole drilled in her head and a tangerine sucked out, she is back home and hopefully the father-in-law will let her rest and recuperate.
