The Ride Day 4 – Serious Goat Trail Riding

Posted 8th August 2008 at 08:49 by glh
Updated 8th August 2008 at 09:03 by glh (Missing pieces at the end)

This report could also be sub-titled, Smoke from a Distant Fire.

I headed inland from Gold beach on Agness Road towards … well, Agness. I stopped at the RV Park to re-hydrate and buy a map. While I was there a couple pulled up on a factory customized Fat Boy. I heard them asking the folks at the register about this road towards Grant’s Pass. They asked whether it was paved all the way through, and the clerk said “oh, sure”. I didn’t really think anything of it until 20 minutes...

The Ride 3 - Continued (On the River)

Posted 7th August 2008 at 17:04 by glh

I ended up staying at Jots, across the bridge over the Rogue River. This is place is beautiful. Out the sliding glass door, or from the deck just outside, I can see on my left the Bridge, and on my right where the Rogue meets the Pacific.

As beautiful as it was I found...

The Ride Day 3 – Hung-over, therefore Wimpy

Posted 7th August 2008 at 07:34 by glh

I had a really slow start today. I almost never get hangovers; this morning was the exception to the rule. Note to self: don’t drink the brown stuff, Whiskey bad for you. I didn’t check out of the motel until nearly 11 AM. In my defense I did spend much of the time finishing the ride report from the previous day.
I then proceeded down the street to the carwash to hose off the bike, and from there to the food joint for a big breakfast. While leaving the carwash I saw a sign warning...

The Ride Day 2 - Into the Redwoods

Posted 5th August 2008 at 17:40 by glh

This day was mostly about moving North. I stuck to Hwy 101 the whole way. In the northern part of Sonoma county I hit wine country; rows and rows of vines surrounded by hills of golden grasses and dark green trees. On the way in to Ukiah I passed the Mendocino Brewing Company, makers of Red Tail Ale, one of my favorites.

In Ukiah I exchanged the full riding gear for a mesh jacket. I am so glad I brought the mesh; without it I would have been almost literally toast. To save space...

The Ride Day 1, Across the Golden Gate

Posted 4th August 2008 at 06:12 by glh

This ride has been a long time coming. Originally planned for June, I have just now been able to squeeze a full 2 week hiatus from work commitments. That's right folks, 2 full weeks, with my birthday weekend smack dab in the middle. Where exactly I will go, and what I will see, has not been written yet. I am carrying camping gear, I have no reservations.

The rough goal is to head North to experience lands I have not seen yet, and perhaps visit some favorites on the way back home....
