On a Monday, of all days!

I don't get it. Until today, Mondays and I have had a mutual agreement. I totally and utterly despise everything about it, and in return it sh_ts on me ad nauseam. We take a break for six days and then repeat the process. I'm sure this is SOP for many of us. So why did today decide to break tradition?

So I show up at work this morning regular time, expecting a regular day. There are no weekend fires to extinguish, and the list of weekend gripers is short. Disconcertingly so. I sort of get this 'calm before the storm' feeling, it's so quiet. I figured I'd enjoy it while I could.

0900 rolls around, and the newbie shows up. We've been getting another cherry at work every week for heaven-knows-how-long now. We've had a bigger population explosion than a forest full of Chinese rabbits. But this ain't no regular cherry.

This newbie has long, dark hair, a body that should be in an SI Swimsuit issue, and THE most gorgeous brown eyes on Earth. I could hear Van Morrison playing all over the PA system, and we don't even have a PA system.

So anyway, for most of the morning, I get to help a boss fix up her (the boss') computer. Fortunately, we're friends, and since she just got back from a Vegas/LA double convention, we do more talking than working. Not only do I get a relaxing morning, but because she's one of the big bosses, she trumps any other whiny Users, so I don't even have to acknowledge them! This day's looking pretty good...

Just on a whim, I send the newbie a note around 11, asking if she wants to go out for a "welcome" lunch. Nine times out of ten, a department boss usually takes the newbie out on day one. This appeared to be time number Ten - no plans! So I get to spend a nice, long lunch alone with this brown-eyed girl. The only problem was that I had to continue to focus on her words - it's awfully easy to get lost in those eyes. The bonus is that it appears we have a bit in common.

When your toughest job of the day is to pay attention to a gorgeous girl, you know your day is going well!

So we get back from lunch, and I decide to play an extra inning and give her a casual tour of the company. Not much, but another 10 minutes with her and without work.

After I finally got back to my desk, I had a job on the table that was long, but easy. So I get to spend the remainder of the afternoon listening to music and monitoring (and rarely intervening in) an easy task.

On the way home, despite working in the busiest area of Toronto, I happened to get out of the core in record time. There is minimal traffic, I hit all green lights (except one - a red that turned green two seconds after I got there), and the rain didn't start until just as I got home. I couldn't have gotten that lucky with roadblocks and a police escort!

Here's my concern. Monday has done one of two things to me. It either:
a) is trying to make up for all of those past, catastrophic f__k-overs it has given me over the years, or

b) is just messing with me.
I'd like to believe it's "a". I really would. It'd be so nice if Monday was doing all of this as its way of saying "no hard feelings?". But I don't believe it. I think it's just messing with me. Sadly, I think next Monday is going to be just like the others. Here's hoping I'm wrong!

That definitely didn't happen. It all just came one day late. Or as I call it, a "metric Monday". But at least there may be something with the newbie...
