That is a beautiful Sportster. I always wished H-D would go back to that look while retaining the reliability of modern Sportsters. I would have bought a new one. But instead they did exactly the opposite.

They had an opportunity a few years back to have carried over the oil cooled heads from the XR1200, could have gone to a four valve head, maybe got serious and put a balanced inside, cut off the rubber mounts and dropped the weight under 500 lbs. That for me would have carried our Sportster into the near future. Sad, but we don’t make the decisions, those that know better than us decide. Let’s just hope this last shift doesn’t kill the breed. The track record of Buell, V-Rod, and Streets don’t give us a lot of hope, sigh.........

That is exactly the Sportster I was hoping for and could have strongly temped me to buy NEW for the first time in a long time.

Oh well, the times they are a changin'.

And the sale of the oil cooled heads sportster was so bad they had to change their tires because of dry rot when they got off the showroom floor ???

I would have accepted a completely liquid cooled engine to keep the traditional Sportster feel (lots of vibration) and exhaust sound.

Gotta love those Sportster quirks. Sometimes you don't appreciate something until it's gone.

Just so folks know about this fact, I'll post both sides of the Sportster S, something that seems to be avoided in most online images.
