She's Alive!!!!! Started right up for first heat cycle. Sounded good and ran smoothly. Let's hope that's a good sign.

Holding off on installing chrome heat shields so I can check exhaust nuts during break in. Ditched my 1200 cowbell horn because the engine looks so much better now with black cylinders. Plus, I've used my horn maybe one time in 30 years?? Maybe.

Unfortunately, my battery wouldn't start her for the second cycle. I've got a 5 1/2 year old Shorai lithium. Ordered a charger, but maybe the battery was on the way down? We'll see, but I need a special charger for the LiFePO4 batteries.

What a strange coincidence!!!

Nothing like the feeling of accomplishment to a job well done!

I found the Cometic exhaust gaskets fit a bit loosely in the exhaust ports. Used a kid's glue stick to hold them securely into exhaust ports while I attached pipes. Just a helpful tip.

Those gaskets are much easier than the factory ones to install.

Yes, they were. I just wanted to make sure they stayed in place while I mounted the headpipes.

I should get the Shorai battery charger tomorrow. Hopefully I can restore the battery enough to run the other heat cycles and get her out on the pavement for the first time this weekend.

Those black headpipes are looking great, maybe just leave the chrome heatshields off and see how well that BBQ paint holds up.

Well, the charger indicated a charged battery after a couple hours, but when I tried again, same dim lights and no crank at all.

"It's dead, Jim."

I received a new Shorai battery today and got the 20, 30, and 40 second heat cycles done. Seems to run just fine, nothing unusual to report.

Unfortunately, I discovered that the crappy plastic gas inlet is cracked and leaking. So, one more small detour on the road to happiness.

I ordered one off Ebay. Got the square style as it looks easier to use with a C clamp than the DS inlet.

Had the same problem. Must be a 90's thing...:p

Be careful with it, YT has some nice video's on the subject. Drill or pull the old one out.
