The crossover is bolted to each muffler and bolted to the engine. Do you have the stock mufflers? My stock mufflers were quite, How about the FSM?

@oldboy, YES think i do have the stock mufflers, at least ones that were on bike ,

how are the mufflers bolted to cross over pipe bracket?? ,i dont have a FSM,im using a
CLYMER manual for 2005 XlC 12OO

There is a flange on each muffler, bolted to the crossover's pipe bracket.
Needs 1/2 inch socket and flat spanner to undo the bolts. Loosen the headers at the cylinders before removing mufflers, to unseat connection to the crossover pipe.

You're going to have a job to find anything quieter.

What do you mean: 'how'? With screws, through the bracket and into the muffler.

Part #14 is the screw that screws the muffler to the crossover pipe.

stikflote 22nd March 2020 13:06

No not that bit, in middle of muffler is a round stub sticking out, which goes between no 14 and 17 into that 1 inch

Folkie 22nd March 2020 13:18

'That bit' (screws #14) is how the muffler is attached to the crossover pipe.

The crossover pipe fits into the crossover port on the muffler. This is what allows the crossover to work. There is gasket that fits in the port on the muffler, which the end of the crossover pipe presses against to seal it. This joint is held together by the muffler being screwed to the pipe/bracket (screws #14).
