Flame's New 1989

So,I came across a deal on an 89. 883 "punched out to a 1200" as the young man said.

Obviously, he was no mechanic, as he couldn't answer much more than basic stuff. But it had a title, it did crank (although it ran rough) and it didn't take more than that to convince me the price was right and drove 3 hours to pick it up. Now it's home, and I've made room in the garage.

This thing needs a lot of TLC. I have a lot of crap to un-crap. The main reason I got it cheap, was that it had broken a head bolt (it was hard to decipher what the kid was trying to describe on the phone) But I figured it out real quick

So I'll tear into it, and start repairing the multitude of previous owner brain farts. Like the controls

And this mismatched sissy bar will have to go

And these clamps used as a mounting point for the butchered indicator lights.

And the clamp that was cut up so this aftermarket speedo could be mounted

He was kind enough to leave me the bandanas that were holding the turn signals on.

Nothing wrong with that find!

He Haw. My 1990 started out like this before I joined the forum.

You can remember how mine turned out. Welcome to 4 speed easy peasy fixing.
I had to put on my own S&S Super Carb and hunting down glitches lasted till a week
before the South Carolina hoedown.

Here is hoping the head stud hole in the case does not require one of these in case you are looking at a stripped out stud hole.
I hope it is just snapped off.

PS, you will know right off it has been punched out to 1200. It might be since a stud is broke off.

sprocket cover 1

Sprocket Cover 2 save a penny

I hope he didn't do the punching.

Be glad he didn't own a hack saw.
