Peter: My small "Wolfman" Beta bag that I run on the stock rack carries spare parts, service manual, shaving kit, tent sleeping pad, sleeping bag with room to spare. tank bag carries rain gear,(yeah, someday I'll have some of that nice "Stich" stuff), extra glasses, small amount of gear and visor/windscreen cleaner. Another small bag straps on top of the beata with extra clothing. If you're coming across check out Greg's homemade platform.

Couple thoughts on the Higgy platform, I assume it's aluminum, thickness?
Any thoughts on going bigger/ wider with it?

Over in Brad's thread on the topic, he mentions 3/16" thickness for the aluminum. I was thinking mine was 1/4", but it's been a long time, so it's probably 3/16".

The issue with going wider, it depends on your saddlebags (if equipped). The width of mine gets in the way as it is. No saddle bags? Probably not an issue to go a bit wider. And I wouldn't want to make it much longer. Depending on how you distribute the weight, it hangs off the back enough, IMO.

Be careful of too much weight to far back giving you the wooblys.

I ordered 3/16 alum textured plate, a little softer than the 6061 and probably easier to drill.

I went a couple of inches wider my bags are soft, and worst case are quick detach.

Sounds good Pete! Let us know how you make out. I drilled the aluminium with one of those step bits and it wasn't all that bad. Even thicker aluminium like that is still pretty easy to work with. I used some bed liner to try to coat mine...which really hasn't worked all that well as much of it is flaking off.

You can't go wrong with aluminum diamond plate. It's going to look good and work even better.

ScrewLoose, how did you attach those two side cases to the bike (the pelicans, not the saddlebags)? is there some extra brackets under there?

Paralegal Pete - Looking good! Honestly, I've never used all the holes in mine, but it's easy/cheap to drill them. Are you bolting this to you current rack or getting the solo rack like Brad and I have?

Pistol Pete - The side case pelicans are attached with EasyBrackets, so they mount/unmount very quickly and easily.
