Default 3/4” Axle Drum Brake ??

Is there any way to use an ironhead drum brake wheel with a 3/4” axle? Does anyone make a bearing kit or something that works for that?

I just got a led sled customs hardtail and it has a 3/4” axle. Trying to figure out a rear wheel/brake setup. Any help is appreciated!

It does not appear that any of the led sled hard tail kits are made that accomodate a drum brake.

Switch to any disc brake 16" rear wheel?

Anything is possible if you have a Fabricator/Machinist/Weldor in your sphere of influence.

Your frame needs the sliding anchor section forward of the axle. If not, that’s what needs to be added. Also, what type of axle adjuster points are used, sliding rings or just jam bolts against the axle ?
You can use a 5/8 axle and the stock bearings in the wheel and then use press in reducer bushings at the adjuster/frame sliders points and then appropriate size washers and flanged nuts.

Really need pics of your frame points to know any more. Without them it’s like pi$$ing into the wind.

Ok so here’s what the led sled hardtail setup looks like.



The stock axle is super close in diameter. I don’t think reducer bushings are an option. I’m wondering if it would be as simple as having someone make me new slider rings just like those but for the smaller axle?

As I remember, Sportster rear axle is 19mm which is 748 thou against your frame axle at 750 thou...

You should be able to modify the Sportster axle ends to suit your frame set up?

2 thou on a frame is nowt to talk about!!!

In any case, I would not trust that small end allen bolt to hold the torque required to hold the wheel in place...

Old Drum Brake rear axle is .618. Just shy of 5/8.
This is my hardtail config.



I just got rid of the drum/sprocket and went 3/4 with a cast wheel and disc brake last month.

Your rear frame section would need the extra piece for the backing plate anchor welded on, spacers to align the sprocket and adjusting loops.

It’s a lot of work for little reward. I’d go with a more modern wheel and disc brake set up. Still lots of work, but it’ll be worth it.

Yeah I was thinking that. I’m not afraid of a little welding/fabricating to make brackets and whatnot. What does the swap entail? Wheel, sprocket, rotor, caliper, master cylinder and a brake line?

Yup. The caliper bracket, spacers - cut to align the rear sprocket with the front one, foot controls to actuate the master cylinder and maybe some special washers.

The frame maker would have more specific info too.
