Question Anybody got 0073 Service Bulletin

0073: XLH-FXR UP. MNTING BOLT, BR CL

Hey all - Went to HD's service check on their website and it came up with this recall notice, but didn't give me anything more than what's above. Can anyone help? Is this an issue I need to worry about? I figure after almost 20 years my bike is probably ok though. I don't have anything to complain about...bike's running good.

Can you PM me your VIN? I will check to see if the recall is still outstanding. This was the top caliper mounting bolt (the silver one) for the front brake caliper. There is the potential for the front brake caliper bolt to break, so they replaced the bolts. I can't recall off the top of my head how to tell them apart visually.

073 is the recall number. The bulletin was numbered M-1010.

Where on HD's site did this come up for you? When you go to the page to get the service requirements, or is there somewhere else? I couldn't find it anywhere. It might just mean that I don't have any recalls. But I'm wondering if they have a public resource for checking your bike for recalls.

Went to the shop last week; they had no problems replacing the bolt and closing out the recall. Not bad considering it was a 16 year old recall for an 18 year old bike. At least I know she's good to go now.

Yep, safety recalls are perpetual. There are recalls going back to the 70s at least, and they still need to perform them at no charge to the consumer. The earliest service bulletin with a recall on it that I have is from Sept, 1975, for a SXT-175 frame replacement, and it was recall number 028. So there are at least 27 recalls from before that.

In any case, you can ride your bike again because it's safe now
