Default Proper XLCH

After yet another member has expressed his opinion that real XLCHs are only tin cover magneto pre 70 bikes I thought I'd start a poll on the matter. Following this train of thought real Bonnies are all pre unit. Real Goldstars are pre war M24s not those B31 based things that went on to have such racing success. A friend of my joined the Sunbeam owners club and discovered that if you have a post BSA take over bike, ( Sometime in the early thirties ) most of the members wont talk to you. I'm sorry but if it left the factory with that designation it's a real XLCH whether you like it or not. Tin cover bikes are just like money it doesn't buy you class.

Made me smile about the Sunbeam Owners Club Stalkie ,i was stood next to a Sunbeam S8 , maybe around an early 50s model , stood next to it was a bloke wearing the Sunbeam badge on his shirt , this your bike mate i enquired ? , no it bloody well isn't he replied , i wouldn't be seen dead on one of those , its not a proper Sunbeam ! ,end of conversation .

I had a BSA A65 not a "real" BSA A10
My Triumph T140 wasn't a proper Bonneville
My 883R isn't a real Sportster
Sportsters aren't proper Harleys
Whatever you ride someone gives you crap about it!An iron cover XLCH has been on my wish list for over 40 years and likely to stay because I can't afford it,can't put up with a kicker at 57 and not enough of a mechanic to maintain it.

In a show or contest, no matter what, it's going to be up to whomever judges it.
It is really confusing. And it's always going to be subject to debate.
But if the DMV says you got an XLCH then that's what you got.

However real Ruffles have ridges and I stand by that!!

It's real if you through a leg over it and go, or look at it, or do what ever you want with it. People love controversy, indifference, it's the way REAL people are wired.

Kinda reminds me what Jack Black said about fake breasts . " If I can touch 'em, they're real enough for me ! "
