On my ride the Dart one is excellent
the air flow pass just above the helmet... at any speed...

but i have mids, a low handlebar, and i'm tall 175 cm...

on my previous ride i had a different flyscreen and at low speed the air flow smashed on the helmet's visor... i keep it anyway... since i had always the visor lowered to protect my eyes...

Like mentioned, may take the right fly screen and some or a lot of tweaking.
So are you riding with an open face helmet or . . . ?

I ride open face 1/2 helmet and full face, sometimes no helmet, with and without the fairing. The fairing makes a noticeable difference in wind to the chest at high speeds, I get 0 buffeting (after adjusting it a little). I am 5'9" tall with a 34" inseam, so I sit low in the saddle so to speak.

Like I stated, it is more about getting it set up for YOU to eliminate/reduce any buffeting, some things just may never work for you or require a lot of adjusting. I have never liked a full windshield, but then I never set one up for me, just riding one the way it was set.

I just lay on the tank at high speeds on non-faired bikes.

As said it's all about getting it setup for you. I find a minimum fairing good for me take the pressure off my chest and smoothing the airflow around my helmet. I run one of those cheap Chinese quarter fairings. Works for me. I know Paul has a strip of moulding around the top of his windshield which he says breaks up the wind and helps to reduce buffeting. I've seen others run with the extra wing attached as well which they swear by. I've never tried one of those.

Yep Ed, “micro swirl edging from Saeng. Makes about a 3-4” larger air pocket to what else you are running. Also have the “Laminar lip” on the Memphis Shades “Guantlet fairing” on Black Beauty.

Yes, I've researched both of these. But I'm looking for a combination that is as minimal as possible (ie. just a flyscreen) that will work with my 3/4 helmet. The Saenz edge might look OK on a black flyscreen but I just can't get see it on a clear screen.

The Dart Pirahna (without the OE duckbill and with modded brackets) on my XL1200C is minimal, actually works well, and looks like it belongs. Sometimes you get lucky...

Thanks for all the helpful advice thus far. Just to reiterate my initial post:
- I'm interested in hearing about experiences with a flyscreen AND and open face helmets (with or without a faceshield) at highway speeds.
- I've read virtually every thread here dealing with every type of shield and also various types of helmets, so I have a pretty good sense of the lay of the land.
- My only riding experience over thousands of miles has been with an open face and a naked bike. But now I'm looking for a little bit of wind protection without compromising the lines of the bike and still wearing an open face.

So:
- I realize that the shield and the helmet are usually not mutually exclusive. That's why I'm interested in finding a combo that works.
- I realize too that what works for one person might not work for the next.
- I'm 5'9 with 30" inseam. I ride with mid-controls on a stock seat.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the National Flyscreen for a couple of reasons. It has the same dimensions as the Dart Piranha but comes in clear and is somewhat adjustable (up/down and tilt.) I also need to replace my helmet, hence the interest in getting the combo right.

It was the opposite for me. The Dart Flyscreen on my 1200CB was very unpleasant, even at 30 mph! Much worse than without a screen at, well, any speed really.
