That's what I'm saying. I can't see the logic in re-engineering the thing and running a cable along the side of the bike to rig up a speedometer that won't be accurate due to wheel size.

Electronics are out, too modern, they just don't go with a Sportster, and besides I'm an analog/mechanical kind of guy. There's radar things beside the road all over the place now, I'll adjust the indicated speed with the real speed in my head.

that speedo cable is available in bulk or longer lengths and can be made to run under the frame and up to the stock location. if i had a drum front brake, i would be willing to attempt the conversion to the rear axle.

Well you can't win with these things, they are so old fashioned, oil lines going every which way, carburetor sticking out the side, 1/2 hub brakes, oil pump you can't get to, can't get the rear head off, yeah the cable doesn't make sense but neither does much else about them. But that's why they ROCK.
