Default engine stand/anti spatter gel or spray

I'm going to need to make an engine stand. My thoughts are to make the parts and bolt them to one of my crankcases and then weld. My concern is getting MIG spatter all over the aluminum case.

I just heard about anti spatter spray and gel. Would one of these products protect the aluminum?

Alternatively I could always surround the area with wet rags.

I have a buzz box and can "weld" but I'm not really a welder.

Al melts at a much lower temp though. I'm thinking the spatter will be hot enough to leave craters or marks of some kind on it.

I already have a couple kicking around the workshop but I've been thinking about building another one.
A bit more versatile. Swivel and tilt.

when you're building the stand just tack weld it together.then remove the cases to finish weld.the anti-spatter wont hurt.
