We finally got back on the SBS Chop in the last couple of weeks and got a few things done.

Here are the parts we worked on recently-

First up was the brake caliper spacer for the Sproter (combo rotor and sprocket).

Next up was the wheel spacer to take the place of the two we have jimmyed in there right now.

Next up was the wheel cover. This wheel was made for a pulley on one side and a rotor on the other. Since we are running a sproter on the right side, the left side of the wheel looked unfinished. So we made up a little cover to finish it off. We may change the design, but this is what we have right now.

Next up was to double check the battery cover fitment on top. Notice in the first pic we have rubber isolators sitting in the oil tank battery shelf, bottom and back.

Battery sits on them fine.

Cover is just tacked up right now. Looks to fit well, need to do a bit of grinding for perfect fitment. There are rubber grommets right above the battery, where the studs will pass thru for cable connections.

Cover still needs to be welded up, connection studs welded to tank to secure the box to it. Foam pads will sit between the sides and the front of the battery and the cover.

Sitting in its' home on the bike.

Last thing we worked on was the electrical component box. This box will contain the RBT module, fuse box and relay.

It is going right here, between the frame rails, let's see how good our measurements were....

Fits perfectly. We'll be securing it to the frame rails with 2 fasteners on either side.

This project started out with a bang. Excitement, on our part, was high. We had the time to work on it each week, and we made slow but steady progress.

The excitement level was high, with the thought of riding it not too far in the future a constant fuel to "get it done"!

For over a year we have been extremely short on time to dedicate to this project, and the bike has sat, largely ignored.

Every now and then we would have a few hours to spend on it. The hours we have spent, here and there, have been more out of obligation than excitement at getting it done. (since we knew that it might be another month or two before we could work on her again)

We have so many pressing projects, that we literally do not know when we will have the time to make this bike what we want it to be.

I still have the vision for it, am still looking forward to riding it, but it is with regret, but a realistic assessment of priorities, that we are setting this project aside indefinitely.

Rather than work on it in starts and stops, it will sit, lonely against the wall, under cover, until we have the time to finish it out quickly.

At some point, the time will be available, and the fire to get it done stronger than ever, and we'll get her done!

I wish they would have had anti-grav batteries back in the '70's. THAT would've saved a lot of headaches. Nice work, guys.

Thanks man!

Yeah, the little, powerful, lithium batteries would have made life a Lot easier back in the day.

Devin and I sat down last Friday and started back on the SBS Chop!

Almost 2 years of her languishing in the corner, and she's about to start getting some attention again.

This week, we're looking at her with new eyes.

When we sat down to get back on this, our initial "to-do" list was 2 pages long. After sitting down with the bike, late last week, that list grew to over 3 pages.

There are so many balls to juggle on a build like this…

We’ve been away from the bike for well over a year, and getting back immersed in all the details has taken this last week.

...one of (the many) things we are looking at is we have one small space, and we want/need/probably won’t be able to fit 4 things in this space-
  1. Part of the exhaust
  2. Rear brake MC
  3. Oil Tank/Battery Box
  4. Chain Tensioner

We’ll get it figured out. It takes time & some creativity, but we’ll get it done without compromising the vision of the build.

Some photos coming soon.
