Jiffy stand spring
I think my spring may be a little weak. It doesn't snap into the parked position all that well. I'm not really trusting it, so I got a new one. How in the heck does one go about replacing it? All I have is a scissor jack that will totally be in the way. At least I have a front wheel chock and a home made block to keep the bike up straight on wheels without the stand.
I'm apprehensive about removing the old one, since I wouldn't be able to ride (or at least park) until I can get the new one on. Such a small thing that could render the bike dead in the water.
Anyone have any advice?

if you replace the spring its a good idea to replace the bushing as well... I just leaned the bike against the garage in gear put the stand up and took the bolt out... then there is no pressure on anything...
replace bushing and hook up spring then put bolt back in... check for normal operation...
i also put a dab of water proof grease on the bolt and bushing prior to assembly...

I agree with the way 84 said, but put the pin in from the top. If the bushings do fail, & they will eventually, the pin won't drop out & lose the entire kickstand.

What bushings are we speaking of? I don't see any on my 95 XLR.

Make sure you hook up the spring first then install the pin, bolt or what ever you gona uses.
84rzv is correct about it, forget about all the penny trick, grounded screw driver or spring extender.
If you holes are elongated, just drill and install Chevy door's pin bushing; lot cheaper than H-D ones..

The pictures in Sportsterpedia seem to show a stand that is completely devoid of any grease. It is any wonder those bushes wear out.
My nearly 6 year old has seen plenty of grease and no wear on the bushes.
The holes on my bike are elongated as the stand pivots around a triangle welded to the frame. It is part of the locking mechanism so the stand won't move with the weight of the bike on it.
Anyway as to this thread. Put the spring on and then you can locate the stand and lever into the down position and put the pin in.

Lean it against a wall on the right side. Fix your kickstand.
