Default Saddlebags from Viking or Saddlemen?

Check the bottom of this post if you're considering Viking Bags for VERY PERTINENT INFORMATION!

I'm looking at getting a set of bags for my 08 1200C and I'm kind of stuck on the choice. So, it's between the Saddlemen Drifter Rigid-Mount Teardrop Saddlebags and the Viking Lamellar Large Leather Covered Shock Cutout Hard Saddlebags?

https://www.vikingbags.com/harley-sp...hard-saddlebag

Any pics would be appreciated and insight if you've had both would be great too!

Also, any ideas on a clean looking set up for signal relocation? Without exposed wires?

As always, thank you guys for any and all help!

Here is the warning for future buyers-

DON"T BUY VIKING BAGS UNLESS YOU WANT TO FINISH THE MANUFACTURING JOB FOR THEM. YOU WILL HAVE TO DRILL ALL THE HOLES YOURSELF.

There is a thread called Sportster Harley Saddlebags where "rsscoggins" has a set for sale. Check it out, they look to be in very good shape

Had a set of Viking hard bags on a bike I sold back about 10 or 12 years ago. They were quality bags. Had metal in the sides under the leather and kept their shape, full or empty.

Don't know about the others you are considering.

I forgot to post that I ordered the painted hard bags instead of the leather covered bags (sorry guys, nobody had any used ones for sale here on the forum) as I thought that was a better option for a few reasons.

Mostly it was because I can paint them any color I want. The fact that I've seen leather degrade over time pushed me towards that decision too. I'll take some pics when I get them in and mounted, probably Monday or Tuesday.

As always, thanks for all the help guys!

Cotton1 has those bags, I'm pretty sure he's happy with them, they looked nice when I saw them on his bike.

Annnnd they're going back. First thing I did was open the turn signal relocation kit. It was poorly manufactured and needed Dremel work just to fit. Took me 2 hours doing the relocation but I thought no biggie as most of the disassembly work was done and installing the bags would go faster! WRONG!

Viking Bags are not fully manufactured, HOORAY FOR ME! No holes what so ever are drilled. Which wasn't mentioned anywhere along the buying process? Had I known that they wouldn't have got my money. I never even opened the bolt bag after seeing the instruction pamphlet. I opened 1 bag to check if it was all just a bad translation from Pakistani to English but it wasn't. So, I'd consider these like 90% to 95% bags.

So, they said to fill out the return form. I've done that and I also explained to them about the relocation kit. I'm hoping they do the right thing and take them back as not mentioning that these aren't fully manufactured bags is kind of a crappy thing to do. It would solve a lot of problems for future customers. Hell they're made in Pakistan- how hard is a jig to set up to finish the bags?

Here is the warning for future buyers-

DON"T BUY VIKING BAGS UNLESS YOU WANT TO FINISH THE MANUFACTURING JOB FOR THEM. YOU WILL HAVE TO DRILL ALL THE HOLES YOURSELF.

I sent the Viking Bags back today. I'm very disappointed that they weren't finished bags. I then ordered the Saddlemen bags after calling them directly and making sure they are in fact, ready to mount bags. I'm pretty bummed out because I really wanted the locking hard bags.

I'll update when my Saddlemen bags come in. Oh well, they'll probably go better with the Saddlemen seat I'll be buying after trying out a buddy's Step Up seat.
