WTH are you talking about? Buell's success was due to Eric Buell long before Harley owned the name. Harley may have had 49% of Buell shares during the time my S1 Lightning was produced but that only means they were an investor in the company and that didn't make my S1 a Harley. Buell only became a wholly owned subsidiary of HD in 2003. That's only six years of owning a brand that had existed for decades. Your logic is flawed.

OK, let's look at it this way

~74,000 Buells out of 137,000 Buells produced from 83-till Harley pulled the plug were made while Buell was a wholly owned subsidiary.

The vast majority of the rest were built with Harley motors while Harley was a minority owner and held exclusive marketing/distribution rights.

I know you're saying DECADEs, but lets be real from 83-90 he made maybe a couple of hundred bikes, and even then it was only a couple hundred a year for the first few years after that. So MOST Buells ever produced were done as at least PART of Harley.

But the finny thing is my comments about success or failure weren't giving Harley any credit for his early success. If anything I would BLAME Harley for his later failures because the ham strung him. Still, would call them Harleys in those years though.

Actually the really funny thing is how old this thread is, but how my views haven't really changed in the decade since it was started and BUELLS WERE AT THAT POINT NO DOUBT HARLEYS despite any bad feelings in either camp that wanted to point fingers and claim some sort of superiority over the other.

I remember being told that AMF Harley Davidson stood for "American Mother Fu**in' Harley Davidson" but who cares, maybe they were uncool to the purists but I still liked 'em. I guess a Buell is a Buell, If a Mustang has a smallblock Chevy in it, it's still a Mustang.

Logic fail again.

That simile only works if Chevy owned Ford, and guess what, if they DID then it would be a Chevy (even if it was branded a Ford).... go figure.
