The steering damper is probably there to mask a tendency to head shake.

Taking most of the trail out of it will make it steer better and no head shake.

A sidecar rig might not headshake like a trike????

We discovered the wrong profiles on the front wheel can cause serious problems.

I', mot 100% sure why. But I raced a Triumph Sidecar many years ago (Sorry, wasn't mine) and it shook violently when you shut the throttle off.

tried everything to fix it for a long time. Finally went to change the front tire and could no longer get the brand we were using. Went to another brand and the problem disappeared. I have no real explanation for it, it's just what happened.

The less trail you have the less steering effort required. If the balance point of the bike is too far towards the rear any problems in the front end become more noticeable. And the bike begins to under-steer. This is another reason telescopic forks are undesirable on a sidecar.

Stiffness of the tyre, grippyness and length of contact patch. We stuff some 18" wheels on a Chang Jiang and it made the head shake more. Also shakes it's head more on wet roads. Strangely enough snow and ice are not a problem.

The bike goes into the shop today.
Looking forward to enjoying the summer with The Beloved and the new sidehack.

Are you having a nerf bar put on the front? Several people have told me that I will hit something on a left turn...

Everybody does! You have to rethink your positioning of the outfit on the road and your corner lines.

I'll have to see if it's an option.
The training class for the license endorsement made me aware of how much the chair hangs out on the right. The area around our bucolic estate has lots of 2-lane roads with traffic being none to light for learning to drive the rig. Blasting off into urban traffic right away isn't on the agenda. In fact any contact with the Great Blue Cesspool to the South is to be avoided.

Careful when you pull wheelies! Life gets very interesting.
