Is the steel used in the Police model KZ's? Those bikes and parts (early 80's era??) are quite plentiful here in Phx. I can keep an eye out.

Most police use aluminum. but not all.
It's easy to tell when you look at the tips of the basket.
The steel ones are jagged and the aluminum are more rounded and smooth.

I will look for baskets this side of the pond but what do you consider a fair price - roughly?
Some are asking £160 which seems too much. And do we need the donor pressure plate?

OK so far I have 3 KZ baskets lined up to be delivered end of next week.
SO, I'll be making one with no magnets first since I have a broken one with broken magnets.
" Unless someone else wants me to build them one."
I'm thinking to do the machining, welding, and balancing would take me a week of spare time which is priceless to me.

So any takers on me building them one, just PM me and I'll work it out.
