Rest In Peace Sporting Lad
Sad to report, I just found out that long time forum member and friend Sporting Lad (Tom Hocking) passed away in December. I know there are probably not a whole lot of people on here now who remember Tom but go to his profile and read what he posted to get a feel for what kind of guy he was. Anyone who got to know him knows what a gem he was. I found out he passed away when I went to wish him a happy birthday today on his Facebook page. Rest In Peace my wonderful friend.

“My father Tom Hocking passed away suddenly on Dec 20th. He spent his last years supporting mom through Alzheimer’s progression, tinkering with his motorcycles, and loving his family. He passed quickly from a stroke/aneurism, and his family all had a chance to attend the hospital to say goodbye. I sat in vigil all night and listened to music (John Denver and Stan Rogers) and was with him when he passed. He was in no pain and passed peacefully after a few hours of unconsciousness.
We plan to have a small outdoor gathering around the fire in the spring to celebrate his life, following COVID protocols. Please let me know if you would like to attend.
Many thanks to the hospital staff who were all so kind and supportive.
Donations can be made to the heart and stroke foundation to honor him.
Thank you”.

I am so sad to hear this. Tom was a great friend, and a really nice person. He was a great storyteller, singer and musician. I have lovely memories of his visit back in 2013; we spent a week going to all sorts of places. I especially fondly remember our trip to the Bovington tank museum, where Tom's first hand knowledge of tanks, and his many tales and anecdotes made the visit thoroughly fascinating.
Condolences to Janice and Karina, and anyone else who knew him.
