If it's "close but not quite", you might be able to tweak the fit with some washers. That's what I had to do with my front bracket.

^^ Yeh, I vote for this.

Long ago, I was concerned just how poorly the motor fitted in the frame. Turned a spacer for a sliding fit on the top mount and added washers where required to engine plates/studs etc until it all could be hand-tightened snug with no movement or big gaps anywhere.

Made a huge difference; much smoother.

Totally agree spuggy, my '82 hardly vibrates now that I've got everything locked in nice and snug.

I did find, as have many other forum members, that tightening the main rear motor mount first got everything else right where it needed to be.

When I first got my 81, the rear mount was broken in half. The front upper mount bolt was missing too. I didn't know about these problems. I'd never ridden any kind of Harley before, but I expected the vibration level to be higher than the Japanese inline 4's I was used too. So, I rode the old Ironhead and thought "I expect vibration, but no manufacturer could possibly do this on purpose." I found the problems and fixed them. I really enjoy the ride now.
