I've nearly lost two dogs to paralysis ticks over the years, and friends and neighbours haven't been as fortunate.

My neck of the woods, we watch for slides out of grass and that mud behind the barking fur faces...reptiles are worse than ticks.

Yes, that is true. Dog paddling attracts them too. I use the flea and tick pills from the vet you give the dog once every 3 months. It is the only way to keep the parasites in control here where the dog runs outside most of the time. I have to keep the spray on my boots and tape my pants legs to my boots during certain times of the year working in the woods here. Never heard of paralysis ticks here, but we do have Lyme Disease and several other minor diseases they transmit.

Yes, that is a problem up there too; though fortunately the property where we were staying was up in the mountain range behind the coast and the creek water was too cold for the crocs. But I gained plenty of experience in keeping an eye out for slides while I lived in the north.
One of the things I'm happy about being back in the south east corner, is no saltwater crocs. Bull sharks are more the issue down here in the rivers and canals. But my pups can enjoy our creek and the dam without me worrying about sharks or crocs. Just snakes to be watchful for.
