I bought an 05 1200 Custom 3 years ago, 23,000 miles and garage kept 3 miles from me for $3400. I got over a $1000 of that back selling extras it came with that I didn't want including 2 sets of saddlebags(1 hard), windshield, and original exhaust that was never used. Adjusted price $2400 which is about what you would get for a stock 07 883 around here. Doesnt stop people from asking more but they dont seem to sell like 1200s here that sell for twice that. I found a motivated seller in early fall that had to sell before winter to make room in his garage.

Would it be cheaper to fly to the States, buy a bike and ship it yourself?

It can be done but not many will do that. It takes time and a lot of red tape. Some will in cases of a very special type of bike or antique ones. When you want to import one from outside of Europe, you will need to arrange yourself a 'type approval', transport, shipping, import duties, VAT, BPM (special kind of extra tax..), RDW (needed for license plate). This will take ages. Within Europe it's somewhat easier. But the governments here has made it very unattractive to import cars or bikes yourself after the 'grey import' boomed in the '90's. The younger the bike, the more tax you pay.

However, there are indy dealers and companies who are specialized in this kind of business. They usually import them in bulk. They buy them at auctions or from private persons and ship them all at once in a container. This will reduce their costs and time. Some will only ship them here, sell them at reduced prices if you arrange the license yourself.

This is called 'grey import' because it doesn't follow the normal import procedure.

That is a very nice bike! If it doesn't sell now, Don't wait till spring to try again. Try early January when tax refunds are burning a hole in buyers' pockets.

Basically, it is almost impossible unless you have loads of free time to go around and up & down like a yo-yo doing paperwork....

then, by the time you have the bike legally ready for the road you are too old to ride!!!

Just shows prices are literally all over the place. Some locations just sell for more. I'm priced right in line with current market values averaged from a ton of other listings I've read through both private party and dealer. The bikes for 3k or less I've seen locally have higher mileage and cosmetic issues. Seeing plenty for $4-5k older, newer, low miles and high stock and modded. Only listed it to gauge interest if it was worth trying to get rid of now or wait till tax time or spring. Im totally cool with keeping it though lol.

Yeah that's probably the plan. Weather has been pretty up and down this fall season but colder than usual. I just need another decent day or two to take it out and fill up the tank and warm it up to change fluids. I wouldnt be upset if it didnt sell because it is super clean. I'll give it another go come tax time and spring.
