Is that all? That seems very low. No reserve on EFI tanks.

Per a pevious test by me (see post #97 at this thread: http://xlforum.net/forums/s...#post5414221):
- My low-fuel light comes on with about 1.0 gallon left
- Maximum actual refill for my 4.5G tank is about 4.0 gallons

Screenshot below shows fuelly.com data from my 2017 Sturgis trip.

Normal driving range:
- Low-fuel light at 120-135 miles
- Empty at 160-180 miles

Slowing down to 60 mph on the highway:
- Low-fuel light at 150-160 miles
- Empty at 205-215 miles

Depends. Last ride i did 152 miles and the low fuel light did not come on at all. Constant riding, with only a couple of small stop and go sections.

I get approximately 200 when light comes on. Then, when I fill up, I can always figure on putting around 3 gallons in it

The trouble with just knowing what fuel mileage people are getting, is no one seems to know the actual capacity of the EFI tanks: less than the nominal capacity, due to the fuel pump, but how much less?
The quoted capacity is 17 L, mine, 1200L, yesterday lit up the fuel light at 120 miles. I filled the tank at 125M, and it took 10L!
So in theory it used 10L for 125M!
I suppose that means there was still 7L left at 125M.
One day I’ll strap a fuel bottle on the rack and run it dry, then I’ll have a rough idea how far I can ride before “oh shit,”

nettshubby,,

In 2016, I bought an MSR bottle and ran the nominal 4.5G tank on my ‘15 XL1200CP dry.

The short version of the test results:
- Ran dry at 160 miles
- Maximum real capacity of the 4.5G tank is about 4.0G
- YMMV

For the long version of test results, see post #97 of this thread at this link: http://xlforum.net/forums/showthread...ght=dry&page=5
