Default Back to forum and back to project

I'm finally ready to get back to my Shovester project that's been on the shelf for over 5 years. Of course one of my tools is this forum.

And it is more than just a tool, it is a way to maintain connection with the community. On April 18 2018, my connection was broken - that was the last daily digest of activity from my Ironhead forum subscription. I have unsubscribed and resubscribe a few times yet I still don't get the daily digest of forum activity. I have just posted this issue in the FAQ/HOWTO section and hope to have it resolved soon.

Even if it doesn't get resolved I will start going into the forum to check activity and participate here and there. This initial post is my way to start getting myself back in.

And next weekend I have set aside to start working on my project again. It is actually not that far from completion once I actually get back into it.

About 8 or 9 years ago circumstances had us moving about every 2 years. In each new location this was just long enough to get settled/oriented in the new city and get a shop space built/assembled - then we would move again. At one point we put everything into storage and went to China for 2 years. I've been back in Canada now for almost three years. My new shop has been complete and ready to use for over a year now.

I did start a new activity a bit over a year ago - long distance trail running which eats up a LOT of time. I still want to keep that up but may have to ease up a bit on the weekly mileage to allow more time for other things - like this Shovester project.

Perhaps Roger Goldammer in Kelowna can be of assistance if needed. He usually has some answers for some out of the box questions.

" It is actually not that far from completion once I actually get back into it." That perfectly describes the multiple projects I've got going!

Your subscription issue sounds similar to one I had.

The MS mail server, "hotmail.com" I was using "allegedly" flagged mail originating from xlforum as coming from a known / suspected spammer..... and was "allegedly" dumping all mail. Anyway, that's the rumor.

It never got worked out...... well at least AFAIK.

Solution..... move to another e-mail server not managed by MS, like gmail.com. For me, this entailed:
  • create a new gmail.com e-mail address
  • update my profile on xlforum to use my new gmail.com address
  • and, optionally:
    • go into your profile on hotmail.com and have your incoming mail "forwarded" to your gmail.com e-mail address
    • notify all your friends to start using the gmail address
    • over time, sunset the hotmail.com email address
No problems every since.

Dunno, if this is your issue or not...... so proceed accordingly .

Not my issue, as I do get instant messages from xlfirum whenever a thread I am subscribed to gets activity, but I get no updates when the forum I am subscribed to. I used to get the daily summary each night at midnight (pacific time).

Hmm, is Rodger on this forum? I don't know him but Kelowna is actually one of the places I lived in for 2 years during my period of moving about

You can google him. When I first started working in a shop in Phoenix, I walked in and was told "this is the guy you will be replacing". Roger was there and getting ready to move back to Kelowna. This was early 90's. Boy did I have some shoes to fill. I like to think I filled em pretty good.
