I never upshift.

I figure whatever gear they put it in at the Factory is good enough for me.

When I hear the rev limiter cutting , I think: I should shift. Getting old is my maín reason.

Yet to see any sportster rider run to rev limiter on the street level... Sounds good on the internet though

My flat track bike has a rev limiter marked 8000 rpm, although I've never dared attempt it!

My 5-speed Evo XL has a fairly obvious "sweet spot" so I just try and keep within it. It's probably between about 3000-4500 rpm, the bike doesn't have a Rev-counter.

I hit my rev limiter a good bit (7,000RPMs, I finally watched the tach), though not much around town, speed limit signs here are 30MPH and 35MPH (small town), I usually never get out of 2nd and run 40-45MPH most of the time, as you leave town they go up to 65MPH. So I'm probably shifting to 2nd around 4,000RPM around town and hit or nearly hit the rev limiter for a couple of shifts headed out of town, I don't go to 5th until about 65MPH or 70MPH, just doesn't sound right before that.

I used to hit the rev limiter in 1st a lot (on the 883 too), until I learnt to change up to 2nd very quickly. Still hit it in 2nd occasionally during very spirited overtaking. That's at 6,000 rpm: about 50 in 1st, 70 in 2nd.
