Default Andrews 5th Gear Mainshaft Swap

Hi Guys, I'm looking for some wisdom before i drop a pretty penny for parts. This I also my first post, though Ive been creeping the forums for the last 3 years since I got the bike. Disclaimer: I am a mechanically-inclined noob who has done plenty of work on this bike, learning on the fly. I do realize the trani is the last thing i want to mess with.

Short story: 2001 XL1200c final drive pulley stripped (again) so now im going to replace the main gear.

So my options are the OE path (OEM Part 35034-94) for about $250 from the dealer, or Ive been looking at the Andrews #299105 (direct replacement for OEM Part 35034-89), that would also require the countergear (#29955), which would total out about $220. Changing the countergear seems to be simple enough, im just hoping they do indeed fit this application.

I have called Andrews, the tech told me about the OE part numbers (the -89 fits up to 1994(?) on its own and -94 is from then up to 2003), and that their maingear would fit, but I would have to change the countergear as well. I also asked if I had to mess with anything else in transmission besides, he simply said "No".

So i guess two questions-- Is the Andrews Path really as simple as just swapping the countergear?

-- Is the Andrews path even a good idea? What effect would it have on the engine and trani as a whole? I know the andrews main has 33t, counter 19t. I havent been able to find a tooth count for the OE besides a mysterious "13 & 20" in the description of the parts catalog, and I have no idea what that means. Seems like a huge tooth jump if thats what it is.
Edit: ive found that the #-89 has 33t, where #-94 has 42t. Respective counter gears both have 19t

Thanks guys in advance for any help, hope i have presented this properly
