well thats good you have a carb & petcock, I would contact the manufacturer of the ignition as they used to have set up's for kick starting. what you need is single fire I also prefer mechanical advance for kick starting as some electronic, advance up too quick and you get kick back (don't let it scare you.
you can have duel fire, just you need the ignition to fire every stroke not every second stroke like the late stock ignitions do. as you most probably have around 1.5 ratio primary or might be lower, but 1.5 ratio a nice ratio for kick starting a Harley. a lower ratio primary is slightly more of a beast to kick.

a good way to start off a cold motor is turn on pet cock , count to ten , turn off petcock now set your carb ( I've never had a Mikuni on a Harley ) but set carb for a cold start hold brake on so you don't work throttle as you kick or could flood motor. have ignition turned off give it two priming kicks with ignition turned off & don't work throttle . then with it set for cold start turn ignition on and get it up to compression by pushing down on kicker till it'e up top then while knealing on seat with left knee & right foot on kicker, get up on it & kick it all the way down holding kicker right down while motor spins. should fire up. once you have it all set up can give you more info. I had a 98 cubic inch kick start only & it ran an S&S D carb road like that for 15 years. 11.6 standing quarter & kick start only.

well, I know a mechanical advance is better to kick, but I'm not sure points are better then electronic for riding. with the twin tec I can set spark every stroke, altrough the crank sensor is not good For kick starting. 91-03 sporty could be kicked easily with Ledsled kit. in any case I know a lot of twin cam Can be kicked and they also have crank sensor. switch to points is interesting to me, but there isn't a kit ready to install, the Vulcan one ended, And I fear the spedometer doesn't work without electronics

Yes you are right, don't want points, Dyna have electronic trigger that works with mechanical advance, some electronic advance ok and for riding electronic preferable to mechanical, just I had one electronic that would kick back really savagely. when I had my kick start only stroker shovel. I think the best ignition I had was compufire, but dyna trigger good they come single or duel, they must be good as I know a few guys with Nitro Burning Top Bike Harleys that still use the Dyna triggers, some even stack two sets of dyna triggers one on top of other & run four plugs. I think can had an ignition that had a setting for kick starting, I think Crane is Daytona Twin Tech now.
