Thanks... and trust me, the cockatoos, while majestic, can be very destructive. All they've done here is prune my trees. Oh, and they'll turn the finch's seed feeder upside down and shake it till all the seed falls out for a quicker feed. They are very smart, albeit noisy, and mostly loveable, at least until it is your house / garden / car / crops / christmas lights etc they've decided to strip apart.

Not sure if this will be viewable outside of Australia...

Destructive birds live here in Florida. The pileated woodpecker. About 20 inches long and a 30 inch wingspan...... very large birds. Carpenter bees will drill holes in the lumber of the barns and lay eggs inside them. The pileated woodpeckers can hear the bee larva inside the wood. They will rip pressure treated rafters to shreds to get at the bee larva. Had some carpenter bees get inside a soft spot on a pressure treated post that holds up a shed roof. The pileated woodpeckers ripped the post to pieces. Had to splice a board down the sides of it. The woodpeckers mostly stay in the dead trees. If it wasn't for the carpenter bees the woodpeckers would not be a problem, but it is not easy to keep the carpenter bees out of the wood work.

I had a terrible problem problem with Carpenter Bees in a house I used to own. There is no good way to get rid of them. A good alternative was to get them to go somewhere else. I put some cedar lumber in the trusses in the carport. They loved burrowing into that stuff, they were still a pain in the butt, but they were no longer burrowing into the siding on the house.

There are two things I found works fairly well for carpenter bees. One is a trap (wooden box with bait) and another is using a filled up paper bag (resembles a hornets nest) and will scare off wood bees. My son's carport was being ravaged by them and we used both of these and stopped it.
