Troubleshooting Speedo on a 1990
Speedo is no longer accurate (cops told me so lol) it reads the proper speed sometimes than when gets warmed up , it reads too fast when tested against my car. The needle does not bounce(78000kms= 48360 miles). I have lubed the cable. Should I replace the Speedo drive on the front wheel and or cable or speedometer? Last summer I was doing about 140kms and Speedo bounced back and forth erratically a couple time than settled down. Lubed cable but still not right but is smooth. Also has anyone had any experience with the mini Speedos and tachs? Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks Roger.

Being over 20 years old. Changing the wheel speedo drive seems about time.
Mini speedo is usually hit or miss, I would change that to new also.
Cable can be disassembled and cleaned and prelubed. Since cable pulls free from housing.

I replaced the cable on my 1991. After that it did some wacky stuff for a while. I would be cruising at 50 or so and the needle would jump to 120 and stay there, then go back to normal. It seems to have stopped doing it, but I think I read that too much lube on the cable end into the speedo causes problems. Perhaps too much lube?

I did lube it up pretty good last year. I will check that out when I pull the Speedo drive and cable out. I used some white lithium grease, probably should have used dry graphite.
Thanks for the tips guys. Roger

Replaced Speedo drive and cable, no difference, still reading 10 kph faster at 100kph. I will just live with it and hope I remember to slow down enough if I meet the police lol. I would like to add a mini tachometer. Roger
