Finally figured out how to post pictures
Some pictures of the bobbed rear fender. Trying to figure out what to do with the oil tank and battery. I can see why the current trend it to hard tail these. There just isn't much room to move things around with all the extra frame tubes involved with a swing arm. Would love some ideas as I'm wanting to keep the swing arm.

Decided to check out the motor to check things out. Found a nice glob of JB Weld in the right side case where the shifter boss broke off. Looking for the best way to fix it or maybe one of you have a right side case you'd like to sell.

Oh, Nasty.
Replacement case seems extreme. I would ask the experts about repair options.

Decided to chop my frame while I'm waiting for machine work. Used a hard tail kit from TC Bros. Fit up really nice.

I took my case over to a machinist and he said I'd be better off with a new case than trying to repair it in terms of cost and reliability. What do you guys think?

If welding is to be avoided, a competent machinist should be able to turn an aluminum insert with bushing, locate and bore hole in case, press in insert. Loctite on the insert or small 8-32 screw to secure
My $.02

I totally agree with this. Welding is a viable option as well.

"terms of cost and reliability?" How does your machinist assess the cost issue? He might estimate the cost of machining but does he know what the cost of a new (actually used) case would be? Can you find just the right side or will you need to by a whole case?
And then there's the issue of the VIN. Who wants to mess with that?
In my opinion replacing the case to fix this issue is nuts.
