Drum Brake Hub Interior Scoring or Machining?
Hi guys! I have been reading your forums ever since I purchased my '71 basketcase. Can not say how helpful your posts have been especially the Electrical Checklist Sticky?
I am having new rims and spokes put on what might be the original drum hubs and as part of the process I thought new wheel bearings might be in order.
I got the old crunchy bearings out and found that on the interior of the hub there what look to be perhaps some machined grooves. I did not see these as a detail in the FSM so thought some pictures might help. Are these grooves normal? Is my hub damaged? I first thought is that one might fill this area with grease and the grooves would direct the grease to the bearings.
I would be glad to take any additional pictures if it would help.

Don't think those grooves will affect anything since the bearings and seals fit on the smooth areas near the outside.

I would guess the bore that these groves in is just clearance. I bet the fellas from the factory bored the hub, and then they rapid travel back with the tool presure still on the boring bar
