The Bub Speed Trials WERE this past week....but I haven't been following them, except to hear that Chris Carr failed at his attempt to regain the Fastest Man on Two Wheels title.

Sorry to hear that Ralph. I like Chris Carr, seen him flat track a couple of times. So the record is still held who?

Steve, like I said, I haven't been paying much attention to Bonneville, and the LSR meet was middle of last month, and the Bub Speed Trials followed at the end of the month, I dunno for sure which 2 wheeler is the Fastest- maybe Ack Attack ?
Anyway- Terry Parsley set records this week with his Big Inch Coffee Table Thumper- errrr Buell Blast! You can read all about it here- http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buel...tml?1251782005

And yeah, Ack Attack still holds the record....

Ack Attack Sets New Bonneville Speed Record at 360.913 MPH
9/29/2008 1:07:30 PM
by Richard Backus

On September 26, 2008, after five days of pushing their streamliner motorcycle on the salt flats of Bonneville, the Top 1 Oil Ack Attack team achieved what it came to do – topple the absolute motorcycle land speed record. And top it they did, with a blistering 360.913 mph run.

At 8:58 Mountain Standard Time, team owner Mike Akatiff, driver Rocky Robinson and crew shattered the existing 350.884mph record set by Denis Manning and Chris Carr in 2006. The new record was witnessed by a Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (International Motorcycling Federation, or FIM) official onsite, but is still subject to FIM ratification.

This had to be an incredibly sweet victory for Akatiff and crew, who broke the record in 2006 after hitting 344mph, only to watch Dennis Manning’s BUB streamliner take it away from them two days later with a new record speed of 350.884mph. And it must be an incredible vindication for pilot Rocky Robinson, who moved over to ride for Akatiff following an apparently acrimonious split with former employer Manning. Robinson was part of the team that developed BUB’s record-winning Number 7 machine – the very machine that took the record from him in 2006. Robinson wrote a book on the experience, Flat Out: The Race for the Motorcycle World Land Speed Record, an excellent read for anyone interested in land speed racing. Click on the link to order a copy.

Rocky strapped into the 900hp Ack Attack

Unlike Manning’s bike, which uses a purpose-built, one-off 425hp, 3,000cc V-4 designed at BUB, the Ack Attack gets its power from a pair of 1,300cc Suzuki Hyabusa engines linked together and fed by a single, undoubtedly massive turbocharger to produce a claimed 900hp.

The historic record was set during the first annual TOP 1 Oil World Land Speed Shootout held September 22-26, 2008, at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Bonneville, Utah. The Shootout is the first invitation-only Land Speed Racing event bringing together the fastest wheel-driven streamliner cars and motorcycles on the planet. It is also the first to be sanctioned by the FIA and FIM, the same organization overseeing Formula 1 and Moto GP racing. – Richard Backus

well holy smokes, these bikes just ruined my pants. o well, I am so interested in going fast on a sickle i can taste the bugs. I come from car racing, where going fast is dangerous and fun but isnt what I ever wanted. I myself love Harleys and going fast. Unfortunatly, I never got my chance. So now at 29 years of age, I am still a poor kid. I am trying to collect parts and info on either building a drag bike or a land speed racer. It will be a pre 70 Ironhead. I have a fender and some manifolds. Other than that Im out but Im getting there. I am pretty happy to see all these racers. Wish I could go see bonneville and see all the Harleys break records and go FAST. some day. i have many more years to break the records and Ill get there sooner or later. Thanks again for the pcs and a big thumbs up and pat on your back on the speeds and records you hold. Great deal, keep it up and keep them harleys flying down the salt, dirt, ass-fault, and up hills. congrats

well, yup, youre right now that Im looking into it more, I still would love to run an ironhead drag bike. I always liked old stuff.im not old school. I do think old's cool though. After talking to Madnss on another thread, the one I started for drag racin, I am a lil wiser to the game now. I am going to find myself a titleless evo OR Ironhead if i cant find a evo. It dont matter really. I just love the look of the pre 71 XLCH's. But know after I learned about the issues and hard to find parts, I think the evil would be a better engine to go fast with. whoops i mean EVO. If I start out doing 1/4 miles in 15's ok, its a start. if i never reach my world record, its fine, but I will give it my all. Ill stop rambling now. Thanks and have a good one.
