if you are running a true dual plane manifold, adding vac ports to each runner is a must. tuning by ear is possible but tuning by vac gauge is right on for balance. a lot of engines use the cross manifold systems.
i had the solex on my opel gt and it would perform, smoked a ford truck with a big v8. the only issues i had with it is it seemed to weep at the seams after awhile, fix it and repeat.

The Jerry Branch manifold for the Mikuni-Solex uses a common plenum chamber so tuning must be done by ear. I have Webers on my '75 Scirocco and fitted vacuum outlets to each runner so I can use water tube manometers for precise tuning. Works really well!

Funny thing with the M-S and the Branch manifold: when you adjust the front barrel of the carb it actually affects the rear barrel of the engine! It appears the flow from the carb barrels cross in the plenum. It's a great setup though and I love these carbs.
