Fair enough. The 35mm forks are better than the earlier ones, although not much.. the twin discs are definitely better than the drum, anything is better than the drum..

FYI, do not expect toooo much from the upgrade. The 1980 era dual disk brakes are, by reputation, not nearly as good as the earlier single disk brakes.

My riding style has changed dramatically over the years. I could just drag my feet at this point. The 80xlh front end has 250 miles on it and is totally complete with switches,wiring and gauges etc. I am adding electric start to the 70 and will have all Harley components. My long term plan will be to pickup another 70-71 xlh.

Go to WILWOOD site and they should have a set of pads that will transform those brakes

From their site....

Only THREE (3) things you can to to improve braking

1....Increase leverage....meaning larger diameter rotors....expensive

2....Increase pressure....meaning change hydraulic ratio...again expensive....

3....Increase coefficient of friction....meaning buy a more aggressive pad...and damned afforadble

On the 1978 GMC Classic Motorhome we had all the smart guys put Cadillac calipers with larger pistons to change the ratio...then the pedal was too close to the floor...then they changed the booster to increase assist.....then they changer the pedal lever ratio.......?????????????????

But they were smarter than I am...

Dumb old motorcycle guy here just called Wilwood and spoke with an engineer about which pad to use.....

Poly-Matrix "E" compound is what he recommmended and that worked better than I ever thought they would

My 77 XLCH has triple Wilwood

You cannot go wrong with their products
