Default Akrapovic Sportster

A local shop have a full exhaust system at a very good value,.
I saw and heard those installed on a 2012

They were looking great, very loud pipes. not very classic in sound or looks tho ...

It seems they fit 2006-2013

What would be the reason to don't fit later models like my 2016/2017 ?

I'm not 100% sure what year my bike is , listed as 2017 in the HD search by VIN, but date of manufacturing is late 2016 on the bike.

The system seems to be

Harley-Davidson Sportster XL 883 2008 Open Line (Black) S-HDSPR1-B

https://www.akrapovic.com/en/moto/pr...programId=true

BTW: the system seems to be archived, discontinued.

Thanks!
D.

Harley normally releases the new model year bikes around August, so bikes produced after August are normally the next model year.

One reason the exhaust might be listed as not fitting 2014+ Sportsters is a change to the O2 sensors. 2007-2013 used 18mm O2 sensors, 2014+ are 12mm.
You MIGHT be able to install a 18mm to 12mm reducer busing and use your 12mm O2 sensors (you might have clearance issues with a reducer bushing?)

There was a running change to later Sportsters, moving the rear brake master cylinder back to the pulley cover. This requires a bit more “out” spacing for exhaust clearance. Of course
I could be wrong.

The brake parts don't hang out a ton, but a lot of pipes won't work. D&D changed (significantly, and for the worse) the Bobcat to accommodate this. Mine hangs out a mile and the muffler is like 8" further rearward to clear 14+ parts that I don't even have relative the 04-13 pipe.

This pipe appears to put the merged section right where that would be, so I'm sort of doubtful it would work unless that sits out a lot wider than it appears to.

Default Akrapovič Open Line (Black) S-HDSPR4-B dB Gain

Thanks!

It calls my attention that there are many exhaust system claiming they'll fit 2004-preset.

Besides the lambda sensor size that shanneba mentioned, it cross my mind it might just have been discontinued before 2017 , but I think is unlikely

In any case I think it might be a bit too loud for my taste

Stock: 96 dB / 2950 rpm, Akrapovič: 1018 dB / 2950 rpm, Max gain 922, measured with '14 XL1200C

I do remember thinking they were loud but that looks like typo

Default Akrapovic Harley-Davidson Sportster XL 883N Iron 2014 Slip-On Line (Black) S-HDSPSO3-

And what about these

Harley-Davidson Sportster XL 883N Iron 2014 Slip-On Line (Black) S-HDSPSO3-HB

They are listed on the V&H map lookup, that it could be, maybe, an advantage or not

How would they compare to V&H Slash 3" ?

They have dyno graph that seems to improve the torque.

The sound clips don't help much IMMO, they might be a bit louder than the stocks, you can hear a bit less the 'clunk' when shifting. and a bit less of sewing machine.

Any tried those ?

I had those, or rather the 2004-13 version, on my '72'. They sounded and performed great. However the execution of the crossover port was really poor, which makes me dubious about their products generally.

Yes, they are a bit louder than stock, and sound very much better. Better tone, I suppose. They also flow noticeably better than stock.
