Default Motobatt and nothing else

I swear by Motobatt. The price is the about same as the Harley battery, $125. But I got 2 dead ones in a row from a Harley dealer and when I finally got a good one it lasted a year then it died. The problems probably had nothing to do with the batteries themselves, more like inventory mismanagement. But I don't trust Harley batteries anymore.

I installed a Motobatt battery in my '92 Sportster 4 years ago and it's still going strong. The bike lives outdoors year-round, snow, ice all the usual winter slop. Most winters I leave for a few weeks and so far every time I've come back the bike fires right up.

I love Motobatt batteries. Everyone I've met who's ever used one raves about them too. I won't buy anything else.

Of course as they say in the car ads, YMMV.

I recently bought a Yuasa battery for my partner's bike.

On the invoice it had that batteries can no longer be shipped empty but the company fills them at order time before shipping.

Us UK folk can't be trusted with acid as it has been used in several attacks on people with appalling consequences for the victims.

I just replaced a Motobatt battery, a MBYZ16HD that supposedly has more CCA than the original. It was 2 yrs old and never started my '17 1200C well. I put it in shortly after I got the bike in 2019. The bike was NOS, it had sat on the dealers' floor for 2 yrs.

I mostly swore at the supposedly better Motobatt battery.

I replaced the Motobatt with an EarthX LiFe battery. An ETZ14C, I considered going LiFe when I put the Motobatt battery in but I cheaped out. That was a mistake. The EarthX LiFe spins the motor on the starter like the OE and Motobatt batteries should have but never did.

I've only had the EarthX ~3 weeks now, will have to wait to see how it holds up. I did get an Optimate Lithium charger for it. The newer Harley electrics have a lot of black drain when everything is supposedly shut off...

I run Feather Light Lithium batteries in both my bikes. They do require a special charger and a little extra attention every now and then. The CCA are why I use them.

I am sold on the lithium batteries

My FXDC you really notice the extra cranking power

And they are so small/light

Ya that model isn’t good for Harleys, though their website probably says it’s fine.

If there’s a next time buy the MBTX20UHD you won’t be disappointed. The one you tried only has 240 CCA. Any battery with just 240 CCA has no business in a Harley. The one I recommended has 310 CCA. Also the capacity is much less, 16.5Ah vs 21Ah. Makes a big difference, esp on newer bikes with all the electronics, alarms and other goodies installed.

Anyway I’m glad you got ‘er rocking and rolling....whatever works, works!

The disappointment would be that it won't fit in the newer bikes

Is there any truth to Lithium batteries having issues charging in freezing or near-freezing temperatures? It's around that 5°C and less at least three months a year in DC.
