I had a guy commit suicide in the next tent with a 45. Didn't even exit the head. Another guy was screwing around with a Viet officer's wife and was shot with a 45. It was a beer can shack. The round went through the wall struck the guy in the shoulder went through the chest getting the lungs and heart and exited out the other shoulder. Dead before he hit the floor. My late great buddy Ray Barrios was behind a guy going into a Viet hut at the same time a VC was going down a hole. The VC shot him in the chest with a 45, our guy had a flack vest. Ray said the guy was knocked completely off his feet and was out for 5 minutes. Square in the engine room but saved by the vest. You don't need to hot rod a 45.

That's what I like about a .45..... SLOW HEAVY MASS , easy to suppress and knocks the shit out of anything it hits. Not really about penetration but sheer knock down close and personal. The other ones I use are for more distance and speed.
When in IPSIC, The Israeli team always kicked everyone's but in the sweeping drills, usually minutes ahead of the rest of us and all the while they had 3 in every target 2 in chest and 1 in head.

I was in it more for fun and keeping sharp, but some were very serious and spent a fortune.
Thats how i got into reloading Dam 1000 rounds a night with IPSIC..

The 45 ACP has substantial knock down power. Penetration however is more in the design of the bullet. A hollow point will expand, create a nice cavity/wound channel and possibly fragment whereas hardball ammo is moving on through unless it hits bone. For home defense, your families safety please use hollow points. Leave the hardball for target practice.

I keep frangible rounds in the house guns with HP as extra ammo, just in case.

And when the cops show up, the fanciest gun is like catnip to the District Attorney. He doesn't ask your political beliefs, he already knows.
