you are correct, i had to expand the drawing to see as it was too jumbled up see correctly.
however, the .0002>.0008 would still be the correct range.

That is a very wide range, but the average is actually within CN of that size bearing. Unfortunately the bearings available from H-D have more than 5 times that clearance, so no wonder I can hear them rattle. The clearance is even out of the scale, larger than C5.
It seems H-D also messed this up. What a shame.

less than a thousandth is too much????
crankpin clearance range is higher and that is the business end. but then again, high speed bearings run more clearance.

Not sure I understand Bustard. What I mean is, that the middle of the range you mention is 5 times smaller than the clearance I measure. In other words, the clearance is huge.

With the inner race mounted on the sprocket shaft the clearance is a little more than 0,0033”.

yes, i agree that .0033 is very high.
but after a re-read, goes back to what you mentioned. the inner race race determines running clearance.
on a conversion, the assy is on a test shaft and the races are machined to fit. not unusual for the beast, are not the rods done that way as well as the older main shaft.
there are write ups on the net for this but mostly for the BT's.
i would contact the bearing mfg and get what you need and find a good machine shop, they probably will have to make a test shaft.
interesting to note is that when using miss match mfg's parts, issues will arise.
not all bearings, races and such are perfect, hardly so. if you install a bearing on a test shaft and run an indicator on it while rotating the bearing, it will not be perfect, it will have hills and valleys.

Thanks for the info bustert. I contacted Schaeffler, the company who owns the INA brand and makes the bearing for H-D. I got the reply I expected, that the clearance was determined by the inner ring, and it was chosen by H-D. Of course they did not want to comment on the actual clearance.

I measured the clearance with the inner ring mounted on the shaft. The mounting of the outer ring in the housing will hardly make a difference due to the relative lose fit in the soft alu housing.

Since I dont think a shop can machine a new inner ring in the needed quality at an affordable price, I have decided to have the inner ring coated with DLC. That will reduce the insane clearance with approximately 25% and hopefully make a positive difference.

well, never been around that coating before and if that is the road you take, i hope it works out.
there was a place in the houston area that we sent crankshafts for large industrial engines to have them repaired. they would splay them with molten metal and then machine back to spec.
perhaps not being a pressure system, they run higher tolerance to hold more oil.
